Bookmobile Project

Pooling Community Resources to Replace a Library

In 2006, the Chesterland Rotary took on the monumental task of buying a Bookmobile that was no longer in use, cleaning it up, stocking it with books and computers donated by the local community, and driving it to Gulfport, Louisiana to replace a Library that had been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

In 2008 the story continues...

New Lee County Bookmobile 2008

A second Bookmobile has been acquired from the Lee County Libray, and is currently being stocked and refitted to replace another Library lost to Hurrican Katrina.

Now, in January 2009, after successfully sending books and school uniforms to students in Jamaica, the Rotary Club of Kingston and Port Royal has requested funding for the Chesterland Rotary Club to furnish a Bookmobile for Jamaica.  They have already arranged for transportation of the Bookmobile from Florida!  Stay tuned.
