History

In 2008, Larry Corbus, a Chesterland Rotarian, came up with a plan to help Father Bernie and the Rotary Club of Kingston East & Port Royal, Jamaica, to furnish students with Books and Uniforms so they could attend the local school there.

This plan came to fruition in January 2009, when Larry and a group of Rotarians from Chesterland teamed up with the Rotary Club of Kingston East & Port Royal, Jamiaca to make the presentations of books and uniforms.

With local fundraising through the Chesterland Rotary Club, three other clubs in District 6630, and matching funds from Rotary International,  we were able to raise $22,000 to fund this project.

Also, a big Thank You to Yasmine Bastug who went to Jamaica to help pass out books and uniforms.  Yasmine, a senior at West Geauga High School, started a drive to collect Teddy Bears for the children, and that was a big success.

We hope to continue this project in the future, and the Rotary club in Jamaica has already asked us for assistance in obtaining a Bookmobile for the area.  Thanks Larry for heading up a great project!
